Our Services

Amicus Psychology specialises in working with children and families affected by trauma and/or abuse

Assessment
Psychological assessment of children and parents. This includes Expert Opinion and provision of psychological evidence for the Courts, as well as assessment of therapeutic needs to inform care planning. I work within the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) rates when undertaking court work.

Therapy

Therapeutic approaches include Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Therapeutic Life Story work and Therapeutic Parenting (group and individual/couple work). This can be funded through agencies (often through the Adoption Support Fund) as well as individual families.

Training

Training is always bespoke and can be provided to a range of audiences such as social workers, therapeutic practitioners and teachers. This includes keynote speaking at conferences and training to small groups over a number of days.

Consultation and Supervision

Consultation and supervision (group and individual) in relation to children and families' psychological needs. This can be offered to a wide range of professionals including social workers, residential workers, psychologists and foster carers.

How we work

We will respond to your enquiry quickly, and get back to you to discuss your needs. We will then provide you with some ideas about what might be helpful and this will include timescales and a quote. Each request is different and there is no set plan; we are working with people and each and every one of us unique. Our response will therefore depend on what you are looking for and what is right for your child and family or service.  We may recommend a full assessment or brief therapeutic intervention and will always ensure that you are happy with what is offered.   Where possible you will be seen in a venue that is local and convenient to you. We are based in the South West but able to travel for training and assessment.  If you do not feel we are right for you, or we are not able to provide a service within your timescales, we will try our upmost to signpost you in the right direction.

"Sarah provided a very safe and containing space to reflect on my cases. She strikes the right balance between sharing her expertise and knowledge whilst also giving space for reflection and exploring processes in the therapeutic relationship.
